Postby Alex K » Wed Aug 12, 2015 10:10 am

Welcome, poets! Are you searching for a little challenge? Well look no further! We are holding our first official poetry contest where you could win a $25 Amazon gift card!

Interested? Then keep on reading for the rules:

1) This is a themed contest, so all submissions must revolve around the theme of: Chaos. But there's a catch! You cannot actually use the word, "chaos" or any variation of it within your poem.
2) All submissions must be under two pages in length.
3) You may format your poem in any way you like.
4) You may submit up to two poems for consideration (but only one poem can win).
5) Please submit your poems in the appropriate thread in the General Fanfic category here on the forum: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=25 OR...
6) You may also submit your poems on tumblr (look for Emily's post about the contest on her blog here: http://thel0nejuliet.tumblr.com/). If you post on tumblr, please use the hashtag: #emilypickmypoem so we can find it!
7) The contest will officially begin on Monday, August 17th and end at the end on September 30th.
8) Winner will be announced on Thursday, October 1st.

And that's it! If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to reply to this thread. Happy writing!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Congratulations to Farah Ghafoor for her poem, Ocean Secrets:

when maritime folk weep for the continents,
this is how they lie:
their skins turn heavy, bags of raw meat
blown up into bathmats, jaws cracking.
the tides invert and the shores pull away,
turn to bad mints like mouthwash, frothing
and impoverished, becoming toilet regurgitations.

because the seas are not pretty:
the skies, erupting some pale blue
in challenge, and they scream
all fizzy, swallowing the people’s gold
and children at desultory hours.
every port becomes a hot-spot
for seagull-picking and for dead geese,
humid and still, and the smell of saliva spreads.

Thank you to all the contestants, and we hope to see you participate again in our next contest!
